Aromatic amine derivatives which improve efficiency, are less apt to suffer molecular crystallization, and are effective in improving yield in producing organic electroluminescent devices. Also provided is an organic electroluminescent device having a long life. The aromatic amine derivatives, which realize the organic electroluminescent device, are represented by the following general formula. The organic electroluminescent device comprises a cathode and an anode and, held therebetween, one or more organic thin film layers comprising a luminescent layer, wherein the organic thin film layers include at least one layer, especially a hole-transporting layer, which comprises any of the aromatic amine derivatives alone or contains it as a component of a mixture.
