The limiter has a temperature transmitter (13) determining the water temperature inside the channel, and a switching device for controlling and/or regulating the heating device. The temperature transmitter determines the temperature of the water inside the water heater in a simple and reliable manner. The flow channel has no openings, so that the necessary sealing measures are avoided, thus preventing the temperature transmitter from directly contacting with the drinking water. The temperature transmitter is not exposed to water pressure within the flow channel, thus avoiding additional safety measures.
