<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device that efficiently emits light with less change in the color accompanied with a temperature change even when the device is used in a high temperature environment. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device comprises a combination of a light source emitting excitation light and a phosphor that absorbs the excitation light to emit light, wherein the phosphor essentially comprising α-sialon expressed by general formula of (Ca<SB>α</SB>, Eu<SB>β</SB>)(Si, Al)<SB>12</SB>(O, N)<SB>16</SB>(where, 1.5<α+β<2.2, 0<β<0.2 and O/N≤0.04 are satisfied) and having a specific surface area of 0.1 to 0.35 m<SP>2</SP>/g, is used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
