PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element and a manufacturing method of the same, with the adhesiveness at jointing faces improved and without the risk of leaking, when manufacturing the organic EL element by a lamination method. SOLUTION: In the organic EL element, in which by using a first member, with at least a layer of an anode and an organic functional layer formed on a first base material, and a second member with at least a cathode formed on a second base material; the anode and the cathode are structured pinched between the first base material and the second base material are laminated; and the first base material and the second base material are sealed with a sealing member, either a surface where the anode of the first base material is formed or a surface where the cathode of the second base material is formed has a groove part formed matched into a peripheral shape of either the anode or the cathode, and in that groove part, an end part of either the anode or the cathode is formed.
