PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a low manufacturing cost in a discharge-lamp lighting apparatus. SOLUTION: The discharge-lamp lighting apparatus 100 has an integrated circuit 170 including a service-life termination detecting circuit 171 (discharge-lamp malfunction detecting circuit) and a sequence circuit 172, and an inverter control circuit 135. The number of components can be reduced by integrating the service-life termination detecting circuit 171 and the sequence circuit 172 peculiar to the discharge-lamp lighting apparatus. The integrated circuit for controlling the inverter and the like can be utilized in the inverter control circuit 135 for general-purpose utilities in other application than the discharge-lamp lighting apparatus.
