PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector with a discharge emission type light source reducing unstable-arc-induced flickers, rapidly stabilizing the arc even with the flickers generated and maintaining an intended light emitting state. SOLUTION: The temperature rising effect is increased by applying more energies in the latter half of a half cycle. Thus, in a repair mode, the wave-form slope of a superposed wave formed by superposing a triangular wave on a rectangular wave is set steeper than that in a normal mode. In the repair mode, a difference between a first supplied energy and a second supplied energy is larger than that in the normal mode to further increase the temperature rising effect.
