A method of determining the content of caesium, particularly its radioactive isotopes, present in traces, through the absorption of caesium from a solution and its direct determination on a bed, characterized in that the solution containing caesium ions is passed through a column filled with porous glass, containing in its composition aluminium oxide in a quantity of 5 percent by weight in proportion to the sum of the remaining components and having a specific surface area exceeding 100m<2>/g, produced by subjecting the original glass mass to chemical treatment according to a known method, preferably without heating, prior to the chemical treatment process or after heating at temperatures of up to 680 degrees C for up to 60 minutes, after which the absorbed caesium is determined according to known methods.
