BASE-BAND ETHERNET OVER POINT-TO-MULTIPOINT SHARED SINGLE CONDUCTOR CHANNEL

A baseband Ethernet system over a point-to-multipoint shared single conductor channel is provided to supply broadband access with low costs by providing Ethernet on an existing built-in coaxial cable. A single conductor channel cabling includes a trunk line(214) and plural branch lines(210) connected to the trunk line at plural points along the trunk line. A single root transceiver(root-PHY)(222) is configured to receive a first signal from an external signal source(226) and transmit the first signal downstream over the single conductor channel cabling to each of the EP-PHYs. The root-PHY is configured to receive data signals transmitted upstream over the single conductor channel cabling from the plural EP-PHYs, and retransmit the data signals downstream over the single channel cabling to the plural EP-PHYs. Each of the plural end point transceivers(EP-PHYs) is configured to receive the first signal transmitted downstream over the single conductor channel cabling and transmit the first signal to each external end point device(206). Each EP-PHY is configured to selectively communicate with any of the plural EP-PHYs by transmitting a data signal upstream over the single conductor channel cabling to the root-PHY.
