PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a caption extraction apparatus for supporting physically handicapped people by using a caption synthesized with a video image and for utilizing the caption for purposes other than that for a physically unimpaired person to understand broadcast contents. SOLUTION: The caption extraction apparatus prescribes an extracted position of the caption synthesized with a video image whose input is accepted on the basis of positional information, displays the caption synthesized at the prescribed position on a display section, recognizes each of characters of the caption synthesized at the prescribed position, and sequentially displays the characters recognized as above on the display section.
