1,129,898. 1,3-Dicyano butyl silanes and siloxanes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 15 Dec., 1966 [31 Dec., 1965], No. 55422/65. Headings C3S and C3T. Novel silanes and siloxanes having at least one group of the formula are prepared by reacting a silane having at least one #Si-H group, preferably one of the general formula R a HSiX 3-a , where R is alkyl or aryl having up to 6 C atoms, X is a halogen and a=0 or 1, with α-methylene glutaronitrile. The siloxanes may also be prepared by hydrolysing one or a mixture of the silanes of the invention. In the novel silanes one or more of the remaining silicon valencies may be occupied by halogen atoms, especially chlorine, or by alkoxy groups, preferably methoxy or ethoxy groups. In the novel siloxanes the remaining silicon valencies may be occupied by alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl groups such as methyl, ethyl, octyl, phenyl, tolyl or #-phenylethyl groups. Preferred silanes to be used as starting materials are trichlorosilane, methyldichlorosilane and phenyldichlorosilane. A catalyst is normally present, for example a triethyl or triaryl substituted hydride of N, P, As, Sb or Bi, amides such as N,N-dialkylamides and hydrochlorides of amides. Triethylamine, tripropylamine and tri-n-butylamine are preferred. Examples give the preparation of 1,3-dicyano-4-(trichlorosilyl)butane, 1,3-dicyano-4-(triethoxysilyl)butane from the 4-trichlorosilyl derivative, and the siloxane derived by aqueous hydrolysis of the latter. |
