PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and method, and an image display device and method that simultaneously reduce a motion blur caused by a hold type display system and the motion blur of a displayed video image caused by a time integral effect of an image pickup device while suppressing deterioration in an image to achieve a high-quality display video image. SOLUTION: The image display device has: a motion vector detection section 101 for detecting a motion vector for each prescribed region between the frames of an input image signal; and an edge enhancement section 2 for enhancing a high-frequency component of the input image signal, and an interpolated image signal generated by an FRC section 100 according to the amount of motion of the input image signal detected by the motion vector detection section 101, thus compensating the high-frequency component attenuated by the time integral effect of an image pickup device, and hence reducing an apparent motion blur to improve sharpness in a displayed image. The degree of edge enhancement to the interpolated image signal is made smaller than that to the input image signal, thus improving the sharpness in the displayed image without making deterioration in the image of the interpolated image signal stand out.
