PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strapping machine capable of smoothly passing a tying tool from a tying tool guide passage to a tying tool passage and preventing any defective feed of the tying tool by devising a structure of the passage for passing the tying tool. SOLUTION: The strapping machine includes a tag holding mechanism 3A having a claw with a tag fitting part being fitted therein and having a tying tool passage 303 which is positioned to a tag fastening hole to pass a tying tool from one fastening hole to the other fastening hole, a tying tool forming mechanism 6A which has tying tool guide passages 601, 602 communicating with the tying tool passage 303 and forms the tying tool passed through the tying tool passage, and a tag hold drive mechanism 9A which moves the tag holding mechanism 3A in the advancing/retracting direction to/from the tying tool forming mechanism 6A, butts the tag holding mechanism 3A to the tying tool forming mechanism 6A and communicates the tying tool passage with the tying tool guide passage. A communication connection part of the tying tool guide passage with the tying tool passage has a stepped passage structure 60 which is formed to have an upstream side relatively high and a downstream side relatively low in the advancing direction of the tying tool.
