PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated optical fiber endface preparation method and a tool used for cutting by thermal stress for the endface preparation of the coated optical fiber, to increase the cutting success rate of the coated optical fiber by using a ceramic heater as a heat source. SOLUTION: The coating of the coated optical fiber is removed to obtain the bare optical fiber, the bare optical fiber is heated by the heat source composed of the ceramic heater, and is cut by further adding stress to part of the bare optical fiber having the thermal stress.
