PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple compression test apparatus, capable of controlling the speed in a high-speed compression test with high accuracy and of preventing damages to a load detection means due to overloading. SOLUTION: In the compression testing machine for allowing compression force to act on the test piece 2 placed on a stage 1, in a state where a load detection means is arranged to either one of or both of the test pieces and detecting the repulsive force thereof by the load detection means; a repulsive member 5 for repulsively supporting the stage 1 is provided so as to be freely displaced in the acting direction of compression force; and a screw part 6a is provided to the casing 6 for supporting the stage 1 movable in vertical directions; while the separate screw part 8a, threaded with the screw part 6a in a freely advanced and retracted state, is provided on the side of the stage 1; and the repulsive force of the repulsive member 5 is variably adjusted by the mutual relative displacement of the screw parts 6a and 8a.
