PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of readily and stably producing a thermoplastic fiber having a C-shaped cross-section and excellent in water-absorbing and diffusing properties, water retainability and water content-releasing property. SOLUTION: In a thermoplastic fiber having nearly C-shaped cross-section, a hollow part having a hollow ratio of 15-35% and continuously opened in the fiber axial direction is provided and one to seven fine recessed parts continued in the fiber axial direction are provided on the surface of the fiber. The method for producing the nearly C-shaped cross-section includes forming the nearly C-shaped cross-section by bringing a spun yarn spun from a spinneret in which a plurality of spinning yarn injecting groups are arranged by using the spinneret into contact with air and preventing adhesion of a polymer at only points vertically bringing air into contact with the spun yarn.
