PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet detection apparatus excellent in security. SOLUTION: The paper sheet detection apparatus includes a conveying means (10) for conveying paper sheets, and detection means (20, 30) for detecting the physical properties of the paper sheets. The detection means receive data from a monitoring means (50) every predetermined period of time, and send return data to the monitoring means; when no data is received from the monitoring means, operation of the detection means is disabled.
