PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a normal ink residual amount monitoring state by automatically detecting whether or not an ink cartridge has actually been replaced so as to maintain a normal recording quality, and to achieve simplification of the recording apparatus structure, reduction of the number of parts, and a low cost by providing a detection unit commonly for a plurality of objects to be detected. SOLUTION: A switching operation detecting member 25 of a detection unit 2 switches on/off an optical sensor 15 according to engagement or release of the engagement of a carriage lid part and a first contact end part 240 at the time of replacement of the ink cartridge so as to detect the replacement of the ink cartridge. Moreover, the switching operation detecting member 25 detects the carriage waiting position and existence or absence of the ink cartridge, and a recording paper detecting member 20 detects a recording paper. The optical sensor 15 is provided commonly for all of the four objects to be detected. |
