A BD-ROM reproduction device selects one of the text subtitle streams and reproduces the selected text subtitle stream together with the moving picture. PSR (48-61) contain a plurality of Decode Capability flags. Each of the flags indicates by its set value the presence/absence of decode capability of the text subtitle for each language. A procedure execution unit (20) references the set value of each flag in the PSR (48-61) and judges whether each of the text subtitle streams can be displayed. A stream selection unit (17) selects the text subtitle stream which has been judged to be displayed. Here, the decode capability in a language means that a reproduction device has the rendering capability for spreading the character code in the language into a bit map and the support capability for supporting the language characteristic. The b16-b23 of PSR (30) contain a permission flag. The permission flag indicates whether to permit the stream selection unit (17) to select a non-support language having the rendering capability but no support capability.
