<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a user sitting on a wheelchair or the like can open a platen cover to such an extent as to enable the user to acquire a space necessary to place an original on a platen glass. <P>SOLUTION: When the user sitting in a wheelchair opens a platen cover 50, the user extends a hand thereof, grasps a handle 66 of a link member 58 placed in a housing position, and draws the handle toward the user. The link member 58 is rotated centering around a pin 62 to engage a column member 54 in a U groove 56. Next, the user thrusts the handle 66 obliquely upward to slide a slide groove 60 of the link member 58 along the pin 62 while the column member 54 engaged in the U groove 56 is pushed up to open the platen cover 50. By making the pin 62 engaged in a locking groove 64, the platen cover 50 is held open. The user sitting in a wheelchair can thus open the platen cover 50 to such an extent as to enable the user to acquire a space necessary to place an original on the platen glass. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
