PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing ashless coal of superior quality as a raw material coal to be used as cokes for iron making, at a low cost and in a high efficiency. SOLUTION: The method is for manufacturing the ashless coal to be used as a raw material coal for cokes for iron making; and characterized by including a slurry preparation process (S1) for preparing slurry by mixing a solvent and coal, an extraction process (S2) for extracting the slurry obtained in the slurry preparation process (S1) at a temperature of 400-420°C for 20 min or shorter, then cooling it to a temperature of 370°C or lower, a separation process (S3) for separating the slurry obtained in the extraction process (S2) into liquid part and non-liquid part, a modified coal acquiring process (S4) for producing the ashless coal being modified coal by separating the solvent from the liquid part separated in the separation process (S3).
