PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel cellulose ester capable of being made to a cellulose ester film with a high glass transition temperature and low stress optical constant and double refraction, to provide a polarization plate with excellent light transmittance and polarization degree as a polarization film using the cellulose ester film, and to further provide a liquid crystal display apparatus with a sufficient visibility using the polarization plate. SOLUTION: The cellulose ester is characterized in that it is represented by the general formula (1) [wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and provided that a part or a whole of R is a group represented by the general formula (2) (wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8and R9represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent, J represents a divalent connection group, J represents a divalent connection group, n1 represents 0 or 1, and X1represents -CO-, -SO2- or -PO3-)].
