PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vessel capable of conducting a promoter assay easily and in a short time without needing any skilled technique nor causing mutual contamination among microorganisms and measurement errors, to provide a plate comprising multiple such vessels, and to provide a promoter assay using the plate. SOLUTION: The vessel for use in conducting a promoter assay using recombinant microorganisms for determining whether a specific substance is present or absent in a test specimen. The vessel has the recombinant microorganisms contained therein and a membrane part for sealing up the recombinant microorganisms therein, wherein the recombinant microorganisms have been transformed by a vector comprising a polynucleotide with the promoter region of the microorganismal gene linked workably to a reporter gene.
