The invention relates to a curcumin-based pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of a parasitic infection, specifically a parasitic infection caused by Giardia lamblia, the cytotoxic effects of which on the parasite inhibit the growth and adhesion capacity thereof and induce morphological alterations and similar effects on the apoptosis in said parasite. The novel formulated composition, which is based on a plant derivative, is a viable and highly-effective alternative for the treatment of giardiosis, characterised in that, unlike other drugs used to treat said ailment, it does not produce side effects that force the patient to suspend the treatment.
