An image forming apparatus is provided to rotate in contact with image carriers which are rotatably driven, to thereby charge the surface of the image carriers. A charge roller(14) contacts with image carriers in a pressing manner and is rotated in a following manner to charge the image carriers. A cleaning roller contacts with the charge roller in a pressing manner and is rotated in a following manner to clean the charge roller(14). The cleaning roller includes a core having both end portions rotatably supported and a cleaning member formed as a porous elastic body having a roller shape installed at circumferential surface of the core. An axial end portion of the cleaning member is thicker than a central portion of the cleaning member.
