PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and reproducing device capable of suitably reproducing contents data recorded on a recording medium. SOLUTION: A DVD recorder 100 with a built-in HDD makes a television receiver 200 display: a content display indices 202 classified by a reproduced area, non-reproduced area and a fast-forwarded area in a content data recorded in a HD 81 and a DVD 91 as recording media, by colors; thumb-nail images 204 assigned to chapters set to contents data corresponding to the contents display indices 202; and a predetermined dynamic image, and thereby makes it possible to confirm to what extent a user has viewed the contents recorded in those recording media, and to confirm the contents before and after a fast-forwarded range when viewing the contents.
