PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyarylate low in linear thermal expansion coefficient, excellent in transparency, having heat resistance capable of forming various functional layers at elevated temperature, and excellent mechanical properties for film forming. SOLUTION: The polyarylate has a structure represented by either of general formula in the figure, and an optically active site (ringα,β, andγare each a single ring or a polycyclic ring.).
