PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve easy and quick recognition of a variety of embroidery frames including embroidery frames other than exclusive embroidery frames without processing the embroidery frames. SOLUTION: The embroidery frame is moved to a specified imaging position (S12) and an image is taken by an image sensor (S12). Extraction processing is applied to an outline (S14) based on this image data, and the innermost outline is extracted (S15). It is collated and determined whether the innermost outlines already stored in an embroidery frame information memory matches with the computed innermost outline (S16). When matching embroidery frame information is present (S16: Yes), this embroidery frame information is read out (S24). When the matching embroidery frame information is not present (S17: No), the height and the size of an embroidery area, and seizes of X and Y directions are computed (S18-S22).
