A lithium ion secondary battery is provided to prevent the explosion of a battery or the swelling of a battery by adsorbing the carbon dioxide generated to a certain extent. A lithium ion secondary battery is such that an electrode assembly, an electrolyte and a porous material for the adsorption of carbon dioxide are contained in a case. Preferably the porous material for the adsorption of carbon dioxide is activated carbon. Preferably the porous material for the adsorption of carbon dioxide is covered with a selective permeable membrane which has a selective permeability to carbon dioxide and not permeability to an electrolyte solution. |
