A food storage apparatus designed to sterilize bacteria living on food is provided, which stores food fresh for a long time, maintains the freshness of food at the target level by inhibiting the excessive fermentation of food, prevents secondary pollution by aerobic bacteria and produces a more sanitary product. A food storage apparatus for sterilizing food which is stored in a storage container(102) by applying electrical energy to the food comprises: a storage room(122) to receive the storage container; one or more electrode parts(104a,104b) to form an electric field in the interior space of the storage room; and additionally a door(128), door sensor, power supply apparatus, switch and a control part for inhibiting power supply to the electrode parts at the power supply apparatus. The voltage supplied from one or more electrode parts at the power supply apparatus is 100V to 10kV(AC or DC).
