PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tough electrophotographic photosensitive member having high sensitivity, excellent in electrophotographic characteristics such as charging property and residual potential, and less liable to deterioration by mechanical stress. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photosensitive member has a photosensitive layer on a conductive support, wherein the photosensitive layer contains a polycarbonate resin comprising a repeating structure represented by formula (1) and a compound represented by formula (2). In the formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>represents H or alkyl; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>each represent alkyl; and m and n each represent an integer of 1-4. In the formula (2), Y represents optionally substituted alkylene, substituents may bond to each other to form a ring; Ar<SP>1</SP>and Ar<SP>2</SP>each independently represent optionally substituted alkylene or optionally substituted arylene; and Ar<SP>3</SP>-Ar<SP>6</SP>each independently represent optionally substituted alkyl or optionally substituted aryl.
