PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a less expensive high-voltage power supply which can precisely control its output voltage and is less susceptible to load fluctuations, and to provide an image forming apparatus incorporating it. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus has an AC high-voltage power supply 62 to generate AC high voltages, a capacitor 44 connected between the grounding output terminal 23 of the AC high-voltage power supply 62 and the ground, and a DC high-voltage control circuit 40 provided between the high-voltage output terminal 22 of the AC high-voltage power supply 62 and the ground. The above DC high-voltage control circuit 40 controls the voltage across the capacitor 44. Further, it has a positive peak detector circuit 60 to detect the positive peak voltage of the output voltage, and a negative peak detector circuit 61 to detect the negative peak voltage of the output voltage, and controls the AC high-voltage power supply 62 and the DC high-voltage control circuit 40 from the detected results of the positive peak detector circuit 60 and the negative peak detector circuit 61.
