<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize good gradation reproduction in various color conversions, such as color conversion by mapping, and that from a device independent color to a device color. <P>SOLUTION: The color gamut information of mapping original and mapping destination is acquired. Based on the color gamut information of the mapping original, a mapping object color M is set in color gamut of the mapping original corresponding to the lattice intersection of a color conversion table (S501). A color hue value of the mapping object color M is changed to generate a proximity color Ni of the mapping color M (S502). Based on the color gamut information of the mapping original and mapping destination, the mapping object color M and the proximity color Ni are mapped in the color gamut of the mapping destination (S503).
