The method involves evaluating an ultrasonic measurement signal (S) with a help of a medical imaging system (23), where the signals reproduce the movement of ventricles of heart muscles. A measure for pump volumes of heart per heart beat is determined based on the measured ultrasonic-measuring signal by using an evaluation unit (22), where the ventricles are separated into segments. The determined measure for pump volumes is displayed on a display device. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring a person.
