A composition for immunosuppression comprising the extract of Saururus chinensis or active compounds isolated therefrom is provided to inhibit abnormal proliferation of B cell and T cell, so that the composition is useful for prevention and treatment of diseases caused by hypersensitive immune responses. The composition for immunosuppression comprises the extract of Saururus chinensis or an active compound isolated from the Saururus chinensis extract selected from (-)-saucerneol, saucerneol C, manassantin A, manassantin B and a mixture thereof as effective ingredient, wherein the Saururus chinensis extract is prepared by using an organic solvent selected from methanol, methanol solution, ethanol, ethanol solution, butanol, dichloromethane, ethylacetate and a mixture thereof. The composition is a pharmaceutical or health food composition. The pharmaceutical composition prevents or treats diseases caused by hypersensitive immune responses including organ transplant rejection, autoimmune disease including lupous erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis, and allergy disease including rhinitis, asthma and atopic dermatitis, and the health food composition is formulated as drink.
