The present invention provides a method and a formulation for consistently producing a silicone hydrogel material having relatively high oxygen permeability, relatively high ion permeability, and low modulus, and contact lenses prepared from a formulation of the invention or made of a silicone hydrogel material of the invention. The method for making silicone-hydrogel contact lenses, comprising steps of: obtaining a polymerizable fluid composition including a siloxane-containing macromer with ethylenically unsaturated group(s), a radical initiator, and an organonitroxide, wherein t he organonitrioxide is a compound having the formula (1) of: in which R1, and R 2 are independently H, an alky] group, a cycloalkyl group, an arenyl group, a heterocyclic group, or an aryl group; R3 is an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an arenyl group, a heterocyclic group, or an aryl group; R3 and R2 or R1 and R2 may be joined together to form a cyclic ring structure that may ha ve fused with it another saturated or aromatic ring; each of R1, R2, or R3 may be substituted by at least one member of the group consisting of hydroxy) group , sulfonate group, sulfate group, carboxylate group, amino group, ammonium group, alkoxy group, aryloxy group, silyl group, boryl group, phosphino grou p, thio group, seieno group, and combinations thereof.
