PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply sufficient oil to lubrication required section of an energizing mechanism 50 and an element 41 energized by the same in a variable valve operating mechanism 30 for an internal combustion engine 1. SOLUTION: A valve lift mechanism 34 provided in the variable valve operating mechanism 30 includes a cam struck member 41, valve striking members 42A, 42B and a slider gear 43. The cam struck member 41 is always abutted on a cam 13a by the energizing mechanism 50. The energizing mechanism 50 includes a spring 51 and a holder 52. The holder 52 has a bottomed cylinder shape and is arranged in a posture in which opening thereof is in a lower side and a bottom part is in an upper side, and an oil hole 52c is provided on the bottom part. Consequently, oil discharged downward from an oil supply pipe 60 can easily enter an inside of an cylinder part 52a of the holder 52 via the oil hole 52c of the bottom part when the oil supply pipe 60 is arranged above the bottom part of the holder 52.
