The present invention provides compounds having the formula: (I) wherein A-B together represent one of the following structures: (II) or (III) wherein one of ---- is a double bond, as valency permits; and R<SUP>2</SUP>, R<SUP>4</SUP>, X <SUP>1A</SUP>, X<SUP>2A</SUP>, X<SUP>1B</SUP>, X<SUP>2B</SUP>, L<SUP>1</SUP>, L<SUP>2</SUP>, Y an Z are as defined in classes and subclasess herein, and pharmaceutical compositions thereof, as described generally and in subclasses herein, which compounds are useful as inhibitors of protein kinase (e.g., Aurora), and thus are useful, for example, for the treatment of Aurora mediated diseases.
