<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a control method which ensure security of data and improve print processing efficiency by automatically setting and changing an authentication level according to the using state of the printer. <P>SOLUTION: The printer for processing a print request including an authentication request comprises: a means storing use history information such as a user who made the print request, the time, or presence/absence of the authentication request; a means determining the authentication level for checking the authentication request based on the use history information stored by the means; and a means automatically updating and storing the authentication level determined by the means for each range of date, time zone or the like. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
