A gasket separating device of a refrigerator is provided to separate a side gasket assembly faced with a door by detecting whether the door is opened/closed by a sensor and operating a solenoid mechanism installed at the door through obtained signals. A method for separating a gasket of a refrigerator comprises steps for detecting a door(35L) by at least one of plural sensors installed at the refrigerator; and detecting that the door is opened more by at least another one of the plural sensors. A side gasket assembly(50) installed on one door is separated from the other door by a separating mechanism(70) through the signals obtained at the first step, and the separating mechanism is recovered to an initial state through the signals obtained at the second step.
