<p>A portable refrigeration unit 1 contains a phase change material and has a temperature indicating means (6 fig 1). The unit can be used to cool the loading space 12, 14, of a transport vehicle 10, and may be removable and recharged by cooling in a freezer unit when its ability to provide cooling is exhausted. The unit may be mounted within the vehicle loading space in a mounting space 16, and several units may be so arranged. The vehicle may include a fan arrangement 22 between the mounting space and the loading space, which delivers the cool air to the loading space. Each refrigeration unit may also include a carrying handle 4, and the phase change material may be formed from a liquid or gel material. The phase change material may contain an aqueous solution with chemical salts and organic compounds, such as sodium chloride or potassium bromide. The invention permits a low cost, compact and lightweight refrigeration system to be used in a transport vehicle.</p> |
