An automotive exhaust gas catalytic converter has a housing with a cut-out socket for a gas sensor. The housing encloses a substrate with a catalytic coating (11) having a non-homogenous oxygen take-up capacity. In the vicinity of the sensor, the coating has a lower oxygen take-up capacity than in other parts of the catalytic converter.
