PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cost of an excavator with a simple structure using a conventional vertical multishaft hole drilling machine. SOLUTION: This horizontal excavator 1 for horizontally excavating the underground ground is formed as a structure installed in a triaxial hole drilling machine 2 having independently driven first to third hole drilling rotary shafts 3, 4 and 5. The horizontal excavator 1 has an excavating shaft member R for arranging an excavating part 7 on the tip, a slide transmitting mechanism S for converting torque of the first hole drilling rotary shaft 3 into the advance-retreat movement in the direction of an excavating rotary shaft P of the excavating shaft member R, and a rotation transmitting mechanism T for transmitting torque of the second hole drilling rotary shaft 4 to rotation of the excavating shaft member R. The excavating shaft member R is rotated by the rotation transmitting mechanism T, and can excavate in the horizontal direction by advancing in the excavating direction by the slide transmitting mechanism S.
