PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a wrapping material on a container without performing an inclination setting and producing any wrinkle or color uneveness or the like. SOLUTION: A wrapping material applying apparatus (10) for use in applying a wrapping material (60) to a container (50) comprises a container pre-heating means (20) for pre-heating at least a part (53) of the container, a wrapping material arranging means (41) for arranging the wrapping material so as to enclose the container and a wrapping material heating means (30) for heating the wrapping material at a temperature more than a shrinkage starting temperature of the wrapping material. With this arrangement, the wrapping material is shrunk around the container and applied to the container. A corresponding portion (54') of the container (50) where the wrapping material (60) is shrunk most may be pre-heated. In addition, the container pre-heating means may include a container rotating means (25) for use in rotating the container. Further, it is preferable to apply a natural cooling restriction means (42) for use in restricting the container pre-heated by the container pre-heating means against its natural cooling between the container pre-heating means and the wrapping material heating means.
