PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polylactic acid fiber having excellent resistance to alkali hydrolysis; and to provide a core-sheath conjugate fiber comprising the polylactic acid and a polyamide. SOLUTION: The polylactic acid fiber is substantially composed of the polylactic acid containing 0.5-25 mmol inorganic magnesium compound based on 100 g polylactic acid as a resin component. The core-sheath conjugate fiber comprises the polylactic acid and the polyamide, wherein the polylactic acid part containing the 0.5-25 mmol inorganic magnesium compound based on the 100 g polylactic acid is arranged on a part of or the whole of the surface of the fiber.
