PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material having high thermal conductivity, high electrical resistivity, and high strength, by a simple method excellent in mass productivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing an AlN-Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>composite wire comprises heat treating a mixed powder of an Al powder and an iron oxide powder at 1000-1400°C in a nitrogen atmosphere. The AlN-Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>composite wire has a core part having Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and a sheath part existing on the outside of the core part and having AlN.
