PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermal head which can moderate a local heat concentration by a heating resistor to prevent breakage of an ink ribbon, exhibit superior printing quality causing no tailing due to the remaining heat by the heating resistor and realize increasing printing speed. SOLUTION: The thermal head provided with a plurality of printing dots arranged in rows and electrode layers energizing the plurality of printing dots, includes a large area heating resistor having an elongated shape on the inlet side in the running direction and a small area heating resistor on the outlet side. A plurality of heating regions different in heating peak temperature are generated in each printing dot in the energizing direction when the printing dot is energized by the electrode layers.
