摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method capable of accurately measuring the mode-field diameter (MFD) of an optical fiber and its longitudinal distribution with a bidirectional OTDR, in a short time. SOLUTION: In the measuring method of the mode field diameter of the optical fiber, an effective cross section of a measured optical fiber is measured by the bidirectional OTDR method, the k-factor is calculated from a refractive index dispersion of the measured optical fiber, and the mode field diameter of the measured optical fiber is measured by using the Equation (a) : MFD=2√(Aeff/kπ) (where, Aeff is effective cross section, k is k-factor, and MFD is mode-field diameter).
