PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder deactivation internal combustion engine capable of eliminating an output level difference when the cylinder number changes, without requiring high responsiveness for operation of a throttle valve. SOLUTION: This cylinder deactivation internal combustion engine is constituted so that a part of a plurality of cylinders can rest; and is characterized in that the whole cylinders are dividedly constituted into a cylinder group of a plurality of groups, and the independent throttle valve TH is arranged in the respective cylinders, and an ECU 70 being a cylinder number control part is arranged for increasing the group number of the cylinder group operating in response to at least grip opening, and motors 21A and 21B and a throttle valve opening sensor 22 are arranged for putting the throttle valve TH of the cylinder existing in a deactivation state in a fully closing state with respective cylinder groups.
