The storage system comprises parallel shelves (10) which are mounted on a paternoster-type endless chain system (3, 4, 5a). The shelves are pivoted on the chain so that their axis of rotation intersects an axis of rotation of the chain. An independent claim is included for an item of furniture fitted with the system.
