PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve antenna performance of a built-in antenna in the closed status of a folding-type portable radio, without degrading its antenna performance in opened status. SOLUTION: The portable radio has a folding mechanism to which an upper housing 101 and a lower housing 104 are connected in a turnably. A first conductor plate 102 and a second conductor plate 103 are provided within the upper housing 101. An antenna element 107, a circuit board 105, and a feed system for connecting the first conductor plate 102 and the circuit board are provided within the lower housing 104. In addition, the feed system comprises a detector 109 for detecting the open or closed condition of the upper housing 101 and the lower housing 104, and a first switching 110 for switching between whether the first conductor plate 102 and the second conductor plate 103 are electrically opened or short-circuited, according to the detection result of the detecting 109.
